Our toys on local TV!

Tyler and I had two really great, and really fun shows this month! The Handmade Market and Designer's Downtown Market.

Tyler likes to get real dapper for the shows. As seen in the picture below.

For our second show Tyler just wore his Teddy Bear Pajamas, as he didn't feel like getting fancy.

We also sent a few pieces to the annual Plush You! show. Check out the interview and info about my pieces here.

Here's a photo of my creatures taken by Kristen Rask of Schmancy Toys.

The orange guy is Falkoner Henry, PhD. I'll be finishing up his series, Plutonian Zoological Society, of toys after the holidays.

Another fun picture is my Army of Silly, the Gruffy McBearguins who I was preparing for DKE Toys.

By popular demand we are now offering our three-headed dragon, Azhi Dahaka, as a regular item! He is available here.

If there is any item or color not available at that site that you want, just e-mail me as I probably just haven't updated it.

Back to Work

Now it's probably been several weeks since coming back from SDCC -- which was awesome! I had a lot more fun than I was expecting. I will put in some pictures!

Here our my toys inside DKE toys' booth.
At Conan's art show I contributed to his color by number--can you find my name :D?
Gruffy McBroguin meets someone special. Since my nerdy brother couldn't come to SDCC this year I brought along the Broguin, who is a mutation of my brother and a bearguin.
In case you didn't know that broguin gets his beard from the Brother part.
adorableness, the show is Adventure Time on Cartoon Network, which has one excellent free episode online for those of you that don't have cable, like me.
A singularity fan! (my hubby worked on this game)
K, there are a few more pictures here.

Something exciting that's happening tomorrow:

It's here in my new town, Raleigh, there'll be Firebreather and Acrobats, and Sideshow Acts and even Burlesque Dancers. Plus us selling our toys! Yay! Should be fun, I'll probably have an update several weeks after it happens.

hmm...what else to say...oh yeah! I'm working on a brand new toys series!!
It's not quite finished yet, and I'm hoping to do a big reveal once it's all finished, but if you want to ruin it and see what I have so far, you can go here: tylerponcho.com/plutonianzoologicalsociety.

Upcoming Events - Sock Monkey Workshop!

Two events coming up in a couple weeks, right here in my new town-- Raleigh, North Carolina!

The first, on Tuesday July 12th, is the July Etsy Meet-up in Raleigh, where everyone is making sock monkeys!
I was invited to be the guest speaker at the event and will bring my monkey embellishments, kits, samples of my work and such for the event. The monkey making activity is free, (if you bring your own socks), but you can also purchase traditional red heel sock with detailed instructions (narrated by Tyler Poncho) for $10. Here's the details:

July 12th
Conference room of Techshop RDU from 7-10 pm
5905 Triangle Drive
Raleigh, NC 27617

Next up on July 16th is the Designer's Downtown Market. We will have our booth with our current lines of toys and books available. Due to the heat of this outdoor affair, Tyler will probably not be there for a meet and greet since overexposure to sunlight makes his fur a bit ornery. He will be at the monkey making, though, so make sure to stop by if you'd like to meet him in person! There will be many great artists working in many different mediums at this show, including food, so it's definitely worth checking out. The details:

Designers Downtown Market
509 N. West St., Raleigh, NC
July 16, 9-3 pm

Finally a blog post, including...Designer Toy Awards!

Tyler and I are nominated for three awards, yay!

Our Gummi Bear is nominated for Best Plush Design.

We're nominated with Breena Wiederhoeft for Best Toy from a Comic.

and Kaeti's nominated for Break Through Artist.

Since I am traveling out to the SDCC I will be at the awards ceremony that is only blocks away!

I'm really excited for SDCC, but also a bit nervous because there were no more guest passes to go with the Professional passes so I have to wander by myself, not even with Tyler, my usual human substitute.

We should have som of our toys at the DKE toys booth, and some paintings from the Amalgamated Menagerie, Volume One in the art show.

But also exciting!!-- We're moving into a more permanent studio this weekend--the first we've had since February, and the best part--We get all our furs back!! We've been trying to keep up these past months, but Lengi Bears have been sadly out of stock since most of our supplies and furs have been in storage. So we're thrilled.

Some unfortunate news... Tyler broke his neck a couple months ago. I performed a fixing surgery but it looks like he'll need his whole spine replaced. As the original Poncho, he has an early cardboard spine from a canvas roll. I'm always nervous about fixing him because I don't want to alter the personality he seems to emanate. Hopefully, once we're in our new studio I will be able to perform the spine surgery optimally.

Hmm...no pictures so far, instead I'll link to this new promotional catalog I made.

I couldn't do it, I needed a photo.

Introducing our newest design...

Bobby Snake! He's a slow, subtle, softly slithering sneaky snake.

In Tyler Poncho's Amalgamated Menagerie, Volume Two, Tyler hears a slow, subtle sound of a soft slithering of a sneaky snake. Bobby Snake is that sneaky snake. He lives in a swampy, mushy marsh and desires to leave it forever. He loves to sneak up on people and other monsters to try and escape on their backs. He can't slither so fast through the bog, making him the perfect prey for the flying chickens who always try to drown him. Bobby can also magically dance on the tip of his tail. Bobby Snake's motives are unknown, he didn't join Tyler's menagerie, preferring to slither back into the mud. Either way, he loves to lick!

and by the way, Volume Two is now available!

It's been awhile, Blog.

I've been settling into this new location...unfortunately most of our belongings are in storage till June, so I have minimal materials to work with. But soon everything will be organized.

I'm going to SDCC this year! I'm still considering whether I should try to bring Tyler...
My brother had told me weeks ago that the whole show was sold out, so I wasn't expecting to hear anything, but then, to my surprise they message that I'd be given a professional pass! With no guest:( So now i'm planning a trip to San Diego. There should be some of my toys on display at the DKE Toys booth.

I'm SO close to finishing Volume Two of Tyler's Amalgamated Menagerie. I will include an excerpt with illustrations!

hmmm....actually pretty sleepy now, maybe just some pictures.

More previews on my next post! (whenever that will be :P)

The World of Peacock City Planet

(a little background info for Tyler Poncho's Amalgamated Menagerie, Volume Two)

The Petticoatian Hemisphere.

The Josephs Petticoat are the only character we've met so far from this part of the world. The Pettiocats are descended from Ancient Peacock Gods. The Petticoats are very laid back and easily self-governed so they feel fine and independent even though King Poncho is the overlord of the planet.  The petticoats have the richness of life and art. A common saying amongst the Petticoats, "Pterodactyl is with you." An important god, Pterodactyl, created their planet. Pterodactyl created the peacocks and gave them consciousness. He named the planet "Peacock" after his most favorite creation. He then proclaimed he loved them all and he will always be with them in their hearts, but he will never intervene or return to Peacock City Planet because he has many more worlds to create.

The Ponchovian Hemisphere.

Of the characters we've met so far, the Tylers Poncho, Gruffy McBearguin, Chilly Lomedomes, and Telescoping Tigers reside on the Ponchovian Hemisphere. The Tigers are a proud and frightening species which King Poncho can barely control. King Poncho will call upon them in times of strife to take care of extreme disobedience and in exchange, he looks away when they don't follow Peacock City's fair laws. King Poncho is a sympathetic but incompetent ruler who tries to fix their global problems with his wrench-tongues.
A theory of the origin of the Ponchos is they came into being from Lava Beetles, who rolled cooling lava into glowing Stones that are still used as currency in the modern day. This is why the Ponchos are the reigning species. A common greeting amongst ponchos, "You're a good beetle." The beetle was self made, with ambition and motivation, he came into being from the firey lava and began work, rolling the gems and creating economy. The Ponchos are self reliant and don't recognized the Petticoat's gods.
When the Ponchos gained consciousness and became the dominating species they added the name "City" to the name of their planet after their beatiful, creative city. Eventually the Ponchos and Petticoats came to a relative truce and added "Planet" to express the unity of the two sides of the world, thus creating Peacock City Planet.

The Violet Land

A strange violet world lurks in between the two halves. Bizarro version of the normally lit animals live here, and Ponchos must cross this treacherous land to visit the Petticoatian Desert. Tyler merely saw a glimpse of this cruel world in Volume One. To prevent citizens from entering the Violet Land, the People of Purple have constructed massive mountains made of leaves that must be crossed. The See-Otters,living in both hemispheres, guard the entrance to the leafy mountains.
